The library encourages patrons to support the library through its "Friends of the Library" (FOL) organization.
Anyone can join the "Friends of the Library" organization; however, the library does reserve the right of refusal. Annual membership rates begin at $75. Some of the benefits include:
5 book maximum checkout
Unlimited access to the affiliate computers during Access & Instruction Desk hours
For more information, please consult the Friends of the library website.
Students and faculty with current ID cards from the Partnership Among South Carolina Academic Libraries (PASCAL) institutions may borrow circulating materials. Requesting patrons must be in good standing with the library of their home institution. Students, staff, and faculty from PASCAL member institutions may also return books from other PASCAL libraries. The books will be returned via the PASCAL courier.
Alumni are welcome to utilize all of our collections in the library during our regular hours. Alumni status must be verified and issued an Alumni Access Card before entering the building. They may also visit the Access & Instruction Desk to use the affiliate computers through PC Reservation to access all of the library's e-resources. Alumni may receive book borrowing privileges by joining the Friends of the Library at the Access & Instruction Desk. Lifetime Alumni receive complimentary Friends of the Library cards by presenting their Lifetime Alumni cards at the Access & Instruction Desk. Additionally, alumni near and far may request library materials through interlibrary loan at their local library. For the greater listing of library services to alumni, please consult the alumni services guide (http://libguides.charleston.edu/alumniservices).
Students and faculty with current ID cards from PASCAL institutions may borrow circulating materials. Requesting patrons must be in good standing with the library of their home institution. Students, staff and faculty from PASCAL member institutions may also return books from other PASCAL libraries. The books will be returned via the PASCAL courier (Interlibrary Loan).
Any member of an organization which has been granted library privileges by the administration. This includes but is not limited to NOAA, SCDNR, advisory boards or other special groups. Please consult the Borrowing policy and the Computer Use policy for more information.
Visiting scholars may be granted certain library privileges by obtaining permission from the Associate Dean of Access, Instruction, and Assessment. This approval process includes the scholar providing a letter from their home institution's Department Head or Dean that outlines and endorses their research and the need for privileges (including interlibrary loan, if necessary) and the duration of time for which privileges are needed. The scholar's home institution must also state that they are willing to be responsible for any lost or damaged material.
