ANTH306_Platt: Find Sources

Discover CofC Libraries

The Discovery Service provides a single, unified search box for searching the holdings of the College of Charleston Libraries, including academic/scholarly journal articles, print books, e-books, newspapers, magazines, internet documents, research reports, research guides, and much more!

Strategies for Researching your City or Town

In order to gather information about your geographic region, use some of the search strategies mentioned in your research session with the librarian.

  • For example, use Google to find the city or town website.
  • Within that website, search for hidden data through the search bar OR type your topic in the address bar before the URL; example: flood plain site:https://www.charleston-sc.gov
  • Use library resources such as Policy Map, Sage Data, or Statistica to find specialized data on your area.
  • Find News on your area by using Google News OR the library's News databases.
  • What are libraries in your area? What sources do they provide?
  • Is there a good Wikipedia entry on your region? If so, "reverse engineer" the bibliography to find those sources.
  • Order any item you need and we do not own (check before ordering) through PASCAL or Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
