This guide is designed with links, resources, and historical and player aids to help students at the
CofC HIST 299 and Université de Poitiers M1 S1 Seminar to study, prepare for and play the RTTP game Patriots, Loyalists, & Revolution in NY City: 1775-1776.
From September 9 to November 18 you will participate in a role-playing game entitled Reacting to the Past. You will assume the identity of a historical character and participate in a succession of diplomatic and informal meetings between American patriots and loyalists at the start of the American Revolution 1775-1776. This exercise will require you to apply the knowledge you acquired in class. Your grade will be based on your ability to achieve your character’s objectives and to act and think in a way that would be close to the historical reality. By then, you should have gained all the knowledge needed to take on this new persona.
