Streaming Media & Media Resources at the Addlestone Library: How to Effectively Use Videos in a Course

One can make clips and playlists in all of the streaming databases subscribed to by the College of Charleston (Alexander Street, Films on Demand, Kanopy)

Each database has it 's own peculiarities and is addressed step-by-step in the details of the How to Use These databases in the  LIBRARY STREAMING DATABASES guide.

Consider flipping the assignment and having students watch for homework and use class time for a discussion. Remember that flipping the classroom can be a little bit of time up front (you must plan ahead), but it's well worth it for the class discussion that follows. A note: your TLT rep can help you create a lesson plan for a class discussion!

• Remember that renting a film is a lot cheaper than buying an expensive textbook.
• Vimeo often has full films for free (just search).
• PBS is a great place to find documentaries.
• If your class always watches a specific episode of a show, google it and see if it's free online; if not, contact Jared to see if the library might be able to find it OR if they have an alternative.
• Students know how to use YouTube, Amazon, Netflix, Hulu (the list goes on and on). If you can find the preferred media in multiple spots, you can give options of how to access on your syllabus.

If the film has clips on YouTube, consider putting together a quick assessment using Edpuzzle or Kaltura:
