The College of Charleston Libraries prioritize student and employee experience and success through the Library UX Program. Every semester, a cross-unit team of library faculty and staff collaboratively conducts research to learn about and improve the experience of users as they engage with library resources, services, and spaces in person and online. The team works together to collect, analyze, and document data useful for evaluating library operations, understanding library user and staff needs and preferences, and leading innovative initiatives to create welcoming library environments in fulfillment of the Libraries’ and the College’s strategic plans.

Library UX and Engagement (LUXE) Café invites you to get more involved with shaping library resources, services, and spaces! During this pop-up event, we ask library users to spend five to ten minutes answering usability questions, completing monitored tasks, or getting a quick refresher on library basics in exchange for free snacks and beverages.
LUXE Café is an idea we have enthusiastically borrowed from the North Carolina State University Libraries, who borrowed it from the University of Arizona Libraries, who borrowed it from the University of Houston Libraries and the Penn State University Libraries.
Library Student Ambassadors (LSA) is a student organization that regularly works with us on UX and engagement projects. More information about LSA is available on the page linked below.
We share public versions of projects to show the importance we place on listening to our users and to encourage conversations with others doing similar work. Please note, however, that any findings summarized on the pages linked below are not generalizable. Our data are used for internal evaluation only.
Our team practices the UX Research and Design Process as described in Andy Priestner’s UX Toolkit: 12 Essential UX Research and Design Methods.
