The mission of The Carolina Gold Rice Foundation is to advance the sustainable restoration and preservation of Carolina Gold Rice and other heirloom grains and raise public awareness of the importance of historic ricelands and heirloom agriculture.

Established in 1947, Historic Charleston Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve and protect the historical, architectural and material culture that make up Charleston's rich and irreplaceable heritage.

For parents, teachers, students, and those interested in South Carolina African American history, we offer a number of resources as starting points for further research and knowledge. These resources include external perspectives on the achievements of African Americans together with additional tools to complete a reader’s picture of the impact African American leaders made throughout recent history.

The SCCAAS is a professional organization for persons interested in any aspect of African American instruction. It offers its members the opportunity to share in the development of ideas and programs with educators from the state, southeastern region and the nation.

The South Carolina National Heritage Corridor (SCNHC) was designated by Congress in 1996 as a National Heritage Area (a program of the National Parks Service). Stretching 17 counties and 320 miles across South Carolina, the SCNHC is committed to promoting and preserving the cultural, natural and historic resources of South Carolina.

The Avery Research Center for African American History and Culture, a division of the College of Charleston, was established to collect, preserve, and make public the unique historical and cultural heritage of African Americans in Charleston and the South Carolina Lowcountry.

Center for Family History. Research center with a special focus on African American genealogy, includes digitized voter registration records, censuses, obituaries, family Bibles, etc.

The mission of Battery Gadsden Cultural Center is to preserve and celebrate the history and culture of Sullivan's Island, South Carolina. Battery Gadsden Cultural Center works to preserve and provide access to the civilian history of Sullivan's Island; to provide a space for the display of art and artifacts; to provide a space for artists to work and display artistic creations; and to provide a space for community events and artistic performances.

The Beaufort County Public Library is a leader in the community and a vital threshold to opportunity, self-education, and recreation. The Library's leadership provides free access to information and the dynamic exchange of ideas both locally and around the world, empowering citizens with resources to adapt to a rapidly changing world while preserving the area's rich heritage.

The Charleston Archive, located on the second floor of the Main Library, contains historic manuscripts, books and visual materials representing Charleston and the surrounding Lowcountry. Unlike other local archives that house private materials such as diaries, letters and photographs that feature specific individuals or families, the Charleston Archive focuses on public history. In other words, we collect and preserve unique manuscripts, rare books and pamphlets, prints and photographs, and other materials that document the political, economic, cultural and topographical history of the city and county of Charleston.

The Charleston Library Society is the South's oldest cultural institution and the third oldest library in the United States. For more than 250 years it has collected, preserved, and made available cultural materials for the use of its members and researchers from around the world. Today, it is a circulating library and a repository of rare books, periodicals, manuscripts, clippings, maps, directories, almanacs, and visual materials.

Its mission is to educate Charleston area residents and visitors about the natural and cultural history of the South Carolina Lowcountry through collections, exhibitions, preservation, programs and research.

The Edisto Island Historic Preservation Society was founded in 1986. The mission of the Society is to preserve and exhibit the history of Edisto and to educate the public in these endeavors. To fulfill this mission, the Society operates the Edisto Island Museum and serves as an advocate for historic preservation on the island.

Coastal Carolina University, Horry County Archives Center digital collections are maintained by the Horry County Archives Center at Kimbel Library. The center maintains the special collections of the library and university as well as historical materials relating to Horry County and surrounding areas.

Established in 1855, the South Carolina Historical Society is dedicated to expanding, preserving, and making accessible our invaluable collection, and encouraging interest and pride in the rich history of our state.

This open repository – created and maintained by SCIWAY as a public resource – seeks to collect reliable information about the black experience in South Carolina, from the long years of slavery to the present day. Our goal is to present educational material for students of black history and culture.

The Catawba, Pee Dee, Chicora, Edisto, Santee, Yamassee, and Chicora-Waccamaw tribes are all still present in South Carolina as are many descendants of the Cherokee. These pages provide information on tribes that currently live or at one time lived in South Carolina, as well as general information on native life and customs.
