Each semester, the Research & Instruction Department Instruction Coordinator works with the Coordinator of First Year Writing to assign librarians to each section. Librarians communicate with the instructing faculty member to customize Information Literacy instruction and support.
Following meetings with the Director of FYE as well as the First-Year Writing Coordinator resulted, it was determined that FYE interactions should make efforts to highlight the ACRL Information Literacy Frame, “Scholarship as Conversation” while ENGL 110 highlight the frame Authority is Constructed and Contextual as much as is possible.
ENGL 110 is assessed according to the General Education Assessment Writing Requirement and, to date, the library has not undergone a formal assessment of IL Instruction as it relates to ENGL 110. One of the two SLOs assessed by the writing program, Students substantiate claims with evidence has some bearing on library instruction. For the 2017-2018 year, 68.6% of ENGL 110 students attained competency with an average score of 2.7 out of 4. The rubric used is as follows:
